About the Role
This is a critical role within the Temporary Accommodation (TA) operation, focused on creating and maintaining a safe accommodation environment to support the health and wellbeing of residents. You will provide a visible presence and trusted service, delivering a flexible, responsive, high-quality caretaking service across the TA portfolio. This includes ensuring a high standard of cleanliness for both internal and external elements of residential buildings.
You will work closely with TA colleagues as part of a team to maintain Health and Safety compliance across the accommodation portfolio. The role supports improving the turnaround of empty properties by assisting with clearing, cleaning, and undertaking minor works to expedite the re-letting process.
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and requires an Enhanced DBS check.
Experience
Experience carrying out painting, minor repairs, and specialist cleaning to a good standard is essential. Practical skills in maintenance tasks and physical capability to safely undertake manual handling and other day-to-day demands of the role are required. Knowledge of recognised cleaning standards such as BICS or NHS standards would be beneficial.
About You
You will be enthusiastic about Camden’s ambition to be the best place to live and work, with a genuine commitment to delivering high-quality, resident-focused services. You should be proactive, dependable, and able to work independently with minimal supervision as well as part of a team. Strong organisational skills to manage and prioritise competing tasks to meet deadlines and targets are important.
An understanding of health and safety, including the ability to carry out basic inspections, take appropriate action, and safely use, handle, and store equipment and cleaning products in line with COSHH regulations, is required. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential as you will work directly with residents, including vulnerable clients, colleagues, contractors, and other stakeholders. You must be confident communicating both verbally and in writing, delivering excellent customer care and building positive relationships.
You will be committed to learning and development, willing to complete relevant training such as health and safety, COSHH, safeguarding, and manual handling. A caring, inclusive approach is vital to ensure services remain safe, accessible, and responsive to Camden’s diverse communities.
Qualifications
An Enhanced DBS check is required due to the nature of the role working in hostel environments. Relevant training will be provided as part of ongoing development.
