About the Role
The GP Receptionist is a vital member of the practice team and often the first point of contact for patients. This role requires providing a professional, efficient, and welcoming reception service while supporting the day-to-day administrative needs of the practice. As this is a maternity cover position, we are seeking an experienced GP receptionist who is confident working within general practice and can quickly adapt to the role.
Main duties include greeting patients and visitors in a friendly and professional manner, managing patient enquiries face-to-face, by telephone, and electronically, and booking, cancelling, and rearranging appointments according to practice procedures. You will signpost patients appropriately to the most suitable member of the practice or wider healthcare team and handle sensitive situations with professionalism and confidentiality.
Additional responsibilities include answering telephone calls promptly, processing prescription and patient requests, managing incoming correspondence and electronic tasks, updating patient information accurately, registering new patients, supporting referral processing, and providing administrative support to clinicians. You will work closely with GPs, nurses, and other colleagues to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the practice.
Confidentiality and information governance are paramount, and you will be expected to handle all patient and practice information in accordance with data protection and NHS standards. You will also follow practice policies, participate in training and meetings, work safely, and undertake other reasonable duties as required by the Practice Manager or GP Partners.
