About the Role
British Transport Police (BTP) is the national police force for the rail network throughout Great Britain, committed to passenger safety and integrity. We are seeking Vetting Officers to join the Professional Standards Department on a 12-month fixed term contract, with potential for extension. In this role, you will provide a thorough and risk-focused vetting service, assessing the suitability of police officers, staff, contractors, and partners in line with Force Vetting Policy. Your decisions will support the safety, security, and integrity of the organisation.
You will conduct vetting checks according to Force policy and national standards, research and analyse information from policing systems and other sources, assess risk and make evidence-based decisions on vetting clearance, produce clear and concise reports to support outcomes and recommendations, and manage a workload of vetting cases including enquiries, interviews, and renewals.
Working Arrangement
We offer a blended working approach, combining home and office working, with the team attending Ivason House twice per week.
Additional Information
This role requires successful candidates to pass Management Vetting (MV) and Security Check (SC) Clearance, including a full background and financial disclosure. A minimum of 5 years UK residency is required. The role is subject to a one-month notice period.
Experience
Experience working within a regulatory, compliance, or policy-driven environment is essential. Proven ability to prioritise workload and meet tight deadlines with minimal supervision is required.

Excellent written communication skills are necessary to produce clear and concise reports. High levels of integrity, discretion, and professionalism when handling sensitive information are essential.
