About the Role
The Wayne Sullivan Communications Internship is designed for students from marginalised racial and ethnic communities interested in pursuing a career in PR, marketing, events, or digital communications. This scheme addresses under-representation in these fields in line with s.158 of the Equality Act 2010. You will join the Mayor of London’s press office, marketing, events, digital communications, and Mayor’s office communications teams, working on issues that matter most to Londoners.

You will gain hands-on experience working with national and London media in a busy press office; delivering impactful marketing campaigns; engaging with Londoners through various digital platforms; and supporting large-scale community and major events in central London.

Key skills you will develop include:
- Writing press releases
- Working with journalists and content creators and managing media events
- Developing content for City Hall’s social media channels
- Designing creative marketing campaigns
- Supporting the planning of major events such as Eid on the Square, the State of London Debate, and London’s New Year’s Eve fireworks

The internship offers a supportive environment with internal and external training opportunities. Interns will spend their 11-month placement equally between two teams to gain in-depth experience in two key communications disciplines.

The scheme was renamed in tribute to Wayne Sullivan, a passionate supporter of the internship who worked in key marketing and events roles at the GLA.
