About the Role
As a Welfare Officer within Westminster Adult Education Service (WAES), you will play a vital role in supporting adult learners to overcome barriers and achieve their learning goals. Working as part of the Learner Development team, you will provide essential guidance and welfare support to learners who may be homeless, vulnerable, living in temporary accommodation, or struggling with mental health issues. Your responsibilities will include identifying barriers during welcome and enrolment periods, managing the Learning Bursary, advising on welfare and wellbeing support, and collaborating with Safeguarding and other departments to ensure comprehensive learner support. You will also refer learners to external organisations when necessary, maintain accurate records, and keep up to date with relevant legislation, practices, and procedures. This role requires empathy, proactivity, excellent communication skills, and the ability to build rapport with a diverse range of people while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality. The work is challenging but highly rewarding, contributing directly to the success and wellbeing of Westminster’s learners.

Requirements

Experience
Familiarity with the Learner Bursary application process and experience supporting learners at risk of not completing their courses, including vulnerable individuals. Good understanding of safeguarding procedures. Experience working in a busy office environment with strong organisational and flexible working skills. Proficient in administrative tasks, record-keeping, and data analysis using spreadsheets and databases. Ability to write clear and concise letters and minutes.

About You
Comfortable working independently while managing your own priorities, and also an active team member. Proactive in developing working relationships at all levels to promote Curriculum areas and WAES priorities. Empathetic, proactive, and enjoys working with people. Willing to complete Safeguarding Level 3, counselling, and/or welfare qualifications.

Qualifications
Level 2 (GCSE) Maths and English. Commitment to ongoing professional development in safeguarding and welfare-related areas.
