Hours
37 hours per week. The role operates a 24/7/365 shift pattern including early starts, late finishes, and night shifts. Typical shifts include early starts (07:00–16:00), late turns (13:00–23:00), and nights (21:00–07:00), with rostered rest days. A blended working arrangement of home and office is available after training.

Salary
Starting salary of £46,274.44 per annum, consisting of a base salary of £34,717.36 plus 20% shift allowance and £4,613.61 London allowance per annum.

About the Role
British Transport Police (BTP) is the national police force for the rail network throughout Great Britain, committed to passenger safety and upholding strong values. As a Witness and Case Review Officer within the Criminal Justice Unit, you will manage all aspects of evidential case file review and witness care in line with Criminal Justice timeframes and procedures. Responsibilities include evidentially reviewing case files, managing witness care, facilitating CPS charging advice, providing guidance on national file standards, advising on disclosure requirements, quality assuring case files, and preparing Niche case files.

You will prepare case papers in consultation with the Officer in Charge (OIC) for referral to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), ensuring compliance with CPS requirements including RASSO and ABC cases. You will raise Postal Requisitions within set timescales and guidelines, review case files, and provide guidance to OICs and Supervisors on evidential and Criminal Justice requirements such as CPIA and NFS. Building and maintaining effective links with the National Justice Unit and external stakeholders like the CPS is essential to optimise working relationships.

Additional Information
During training, full-time office attendance is required. Post-training, a hybrid working model is available. The team operates a rota covering 24/7 service delivery including weekday, weekend, and overnight shifts. Successful applicants will undergo recruitment vetting, including a minimum of 3 years UK residency, background and financial checks. Medical and reference checks covering the past 5 years will also be conducted.

Experience
Proven experience in evidence reviews or case file preparation is essential.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with strong report writing and keyboard skills. High attention to detail, self-motivated, and able to manage sensitive, stressful, or pressured situations. Empathy for victims and witnesses of crime is required. Ability to prioritise, manage time effectively, and work to targets. Strong skills in persuasion, negotiation, and influencing others with sound and justified rationale.

Qualifications
