About the Role
Guildhall School of Music & Drama is a vibrant, international community ranked number one in Arts, Drama & Music by the Complete University Guide 2025 and among the top four worldwide for Music and Performing Arts by the QS World University Rankings 2025. We deliver world-class professional training in partnership with distinguished artists, companies and ensembles, promoting innovation, experimentation and research. We also provide lifelong learning opportunities in the performing arts for children, young people, adult learners, and creative and business professionals.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated higher education professional to join our Registry team as Assistant Registrar (Governance & Quality). This key role within the Directorate of Student & Academic Services supports the School’s academic governance, quality assurance, regulatory compliance and academic standards framework. You will help ensure governance, quality and assurance arrangements remain robust, effective and aligned with external regulatory, legal and sector expectations.

You will work closely with the Academic Registrar, Director of Student & Academic Services and Registrar, Head of Learning and Teaching, senior academic colleagues, professional services teams and members of key committees including the governing body.

This is an excellent opportunity to play a visible role in supporting academic standards, governance effectiveness and regulatory assurance within a distinctive specialist institution with taught degree awarding powers. You will contribute to effective decision-making, policy and process improvement, and the continued quality and standards of the School’s academic provision. You will join a busy, committed and friendly Registry team and make a sustained contribution to institutional assurance and enhancement.

This role suits a highly capable governance and quality professional who enjoys working across policy, regulation, committees, evidence, process improvement and institutional assurance.

Experience
Substantial experience in academic governance, quality assurance, academic standards, regulatory compliance or a related area within higher education. Experience advising senior colleagues and committees, improving assurance or compliance systems, and drafting high-quality reports, papers, policies and guidance. Experience working in a specialist, small or conservatoire environment, supporting governing body assurance activity, or managing staff within professional services is advantageous.

About you
Strong knowledge of the UK higher education quality and standards framework, including the OfS regulatory framework, QAA expectations, and the Committee of University Chairs (CUC) Code with a focus on academic governance and assurance practices. Analytical, well organised and confident in interpreting complex requirements and making evidence-based recommendations. Excellent written, verbal and presentational skills with the credibility, tact and diplomacy to provide authoritative advice at strategic and operational levels.

Qualifications
