About the Role
The Barbican is a multidisciplinary international arts centre in the City of London, showcasing world-class artists and performances across theatres, concert halls, cinemas, galleries, and public spaces. The Barbican Concert Hall is seeking an experienced and passionate Technician with a proven lighting specialism to join the Music Department. This role involves programming and lighting design to deliver exceptional music and business events both onsite and offsite in the Concert Hall and associated venues.

The post holder will work within a skilled, busy team providing high-level technical support for music concerts and events across the Barbican Centre, including the Concert Hall, foyers, and commercial venues. The role requires a strong background in lighting with a general understanding of other technical production disciplines such as video, AV, and stage sound equipment.

Excellent interpersonal skills are essential as the Technician will collaborate with a wide range of clients, artists, and stakeholders. This is a dynamic role requiring multitasking and flexibility to work irregular shifts including evenings and weekends.

Requirements

Experience
- Proven experience in production lighting with a relevant recognised qualification or equivalent experience
- Good working knowledge of programming generics and moving lights on a GrandMA 2 system
- Professional-level knowledge of leading lighting consoles and equipment
- Demonstrable understanding of Artnet/DMX protocols
- Experience focusing generic production lights
- Proven skill in lighting design and programming for diverse music styles including contemporary, classical, and commercial
- Experience with medium to large generic and moving light systems and lighting data networks
- Ability to read and interpret production lighting plans
- Good understanding of electrical principles and electrical safety

- Ability to convey technical information related to instrument or equipment set-ups in a straightforward manner

Qualifications
- Relevant recognised qualification in production lighting or equivalent practical experience
