Are you ready to bring the spotlight to life? Southwark Council is seeking a talented Audio Visual (AV) Technician to join our dynamic Facilities Team. This role offers the opportunity to work across some of London’s most iconic civic venues, where no two days are the same.

Key responsibilities include delivering flawless AV support for high-profile events, council meetings, and corporate functions that shape the future of the borough. You will work hands-on with the latest AV, lighting, and webcasting technologies, ensuring all equipment is serviced and event-ready. This role also involves contributing to Southwark’s income generation through the first-class delivery of external events.
You will set up, operate, and troubleshoot AV, lighting, sound, IT, and webcasting systems; transport, rig, and de-rig equipment across multiple sites; independently run events ranging from internal meetings to large-scale corporate functions; liaise with clients to capture requirements and propose solutions; plan technical operations including pre-programming lighting and sound desks; maintain equipment and software records; and respond promptly to helpdesk tickets to ensure smooth service delivery.
Experience
- Subject matter expertise in sound, lighting, video, or IT with solid knowledge across all areas.
- Live events experience with confidence in fault-finding and hands-on maintenance.
- Substantial hands-on AV and event production experience, ideally in-house or with an AV supplier.
- Proven track record managing sound, lighting, and IT for large-scale events.

- Outstanding customer service skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills, able to engage with AV technicians through to senior executives.

- Tech-savvy with proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital tools.
- Enjoys a balanced approach with flexible home working.
