About the Role
As a Band 6 Radiographer, you will be responsible for carrying out radiographic imaging to a high standard and in a professional manner, working within departmental guidelines and being accountable for your own actions. You will perform radiographic duties across multiple areas including theatres, A&E (both adults and paediatrics), wards—especially those with high dependency and critically ill patients. Your role includes independently undertaking diagnostic radiology procedures while maintaining high professional and technical standards and ensuring excellent patient care at all times. You will assess and adapt techniques and protocols as needed for each procedure and take responsibility for patient care during imaging, including manual handling. You will offer opinions on images to relevant medical personnel, supervise and assist assistant practitioners, provide team leadership when required, and support other radiographers clinically. Ensuring the protection and safety of patients and staff from radiation hazards is paramount, including compliance with Ionising Radiation Regulations 99 and IR(ME)R 2000. You will comply with Health & Safety and COSHH regulations, maintain patient confidentiality in line with data protection and freedom of information acts, and participate in the department’s out-of-hours on-call rota. Additional responsibilities include performing regular QA tests, reporting equipment faults immediately, and ensuring the safe use of specialist radiology equipment. You will also contribute to departmental projects, audits, quality groups, and share best practices. The role offers opportunities to develop specialist competencies within the Radiology department and requires a basic knowledge of CT imaging. You will provide advice and guidance to patients, carers, and healthcare professionals regarding radiology procedures and radiation safety, obtain informed consent as appropriate, and ensure accurate recording of patient and examination details on the Radiology Information System. You will promote good relations with other directorates and hospitals and attend meetings as required by the Head of Imaging or Radiology Services Manager. Personal development is encouraged through attendance at study days, training sessions, quality group meetings, participation in audits, and engagement with the personal appraisal and CPD schemes. Experience
Proven experience in diagnostic radiography across multiple clinical areas including theatres, A&E (adult and paediatric), and wards with high dependency or critically ill patients. Experience in supervising assistant practitioners and providing clinical support to radiography teams is essential. Familiarity with Ionising Radiation Regulations and safe use of radiology equipment is required.

Qualifications
Registered Radiographer with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Basic knowledge of CT imaging is desirable. Commitment to ongoing professional development and participation in mandatory training and departmental quality initiatives is expected.
