About the Role
The Clinical Research Fellow will be responsible for delivering obesity research studies under the supervision of the principal investigator at Guys & St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust. Full training in relevant clinical research skills, including clinical trial conduct, will be provided. The role involves participation in clinical and service activities to ensure high standards of patient care. Key duties include screening and recruitment of eligible patients, consenting and enrolling participants, supporting follow-up and clinical assessments according to study protocols, and liaising with R&D and collaborators such as the driving assessment centre. The post holder will maintain productive working relationships with the GSTT research nursing team, collect and analyze study data, maintain databases, prepare study documents and ethics applications, and disseminate findings through presentations and publications. Clinical trial management will be conducted according to GCP principles. Additional responsibilities include teaching and training medical, nursing, and allied health staff as well as medical students, research data entry, processing research samples, and supporting clinical pathways and delivery of Tier 3 and Tier 4 obesity services. The post holder will also attend and support obesity multidisciplinary team meetings (MDTs). There may be opportunities to gain experience in diabetes or endocrinology depending on the post-holder's interests and experience. The post holder will also be responsible for training and directing junior staff as part of an agreed training plan with their supervising consultant.
Experience
Experience in clinical research or healthcare is desirable but not explicitly stated; full training will be provided. Experience or interest in obesity, diabetes, or endocrinology is advantageous.
