About the Role
As a key member of the Community Services team at Whittington Hospital NHS Trust, you will provide essential administrative support to ensure smooth and effective service delivery. Your responsibilities will include maintaining confidentiality at all times, liaising effectively with your line manager, and providing non-clinical information and guidance about Whittington Health Community Services to referrers, patients, carers, and the general public in a professional and appropriate manner. You will ensure patients understand their appointment details and responsibilities in line with Trust guidelines. Managing all correspondence generated by Community Services to patients, GPs, and other health professionals in accordance with Trust procedures will be a core part of your role. You will also use sensitive communication skills to ensure satisfaction with care processes.

Training and development are integral to this role. You will participate in annual appraisals as part of the Trust’s Individual Performance Review and Personal Development Plan, take responsibility for continuous self-development including on-the-job training, and complete all mandatory training modules within required timeframes.

The role requires physical effort such as moving and handling files, prolonged sitting, and advanced keyboard and IT skills. Mental effort includes accurate input of complex data amid interruptions, high concentration for checking documents, analysing statistics, and writing sensitive reports and protocols. You will need to multitask effectively in a demanding and pressurised environment.

Emotional effort involves handling calls from distressed clients or relatives, occasional verbal aggression, managing sensitive information, and working with elderly patients who may have hearing difficulties, confusion, or dementia. You will also be involved in managing staff performance, absences, and conflicts sensitively and effectively.

Working conditions include consistent use of VDU, prolonged sitting, and travelling between different staff bases.

Strong IT skills and the ability to manage data accurately are important. You should be committed to continuous professional development and able to work collaboratively within a team.
