About the Role
The post-holder will be accountable to Dr Alexander Rossor, Lead Clinician for Neurology. The role involves providing high quality care to patients, ensuring prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care programmed activities, and involving patients in decisions about their care. The post-holder must be medically qualified, maintain GMC specialist registration, and hold a licence to practice. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining competencies required for the post, collaborating with academic and clinical colleagues to enhance the Trust's translational research portfolio, and providing high quality teaching to medical undergraduates and other healthcare professionals. The consultant will act as educational supervisor and appraiser as delegated by the Clinical Director to ensure external accreditation of training posts.

Performance management duties include working with medical, nursing, and managerial colleagues to improve clinical efficiency, quality of outcomes, financial management, and operational efficiency. The post-holder will also manage junior medical staff hours, leave, and cover, participate in recruitment, and conduct annual appraisals for doctors in training and other medical staff as delegated.

Governance responsibilities include reviewing clinical outcomes using benchmarking data, participating in clinical audit and evaluation, incident reporting and analysis, and ensuring implementation of resulting actions. The consultant will work closely with the Directorate and Patient and Public Involvement panels on clinical and service developments, ensure NICE guidelines are reviewed and implemented, and maintain up-to-date clinical guidelines and protocols. The post-holder will role model good infection control practices, undertake regular CPD, participate in yearly appraisals, and engage in the revalidation cycle.

Strategic duties include participating in business planning and objective setting for the directorate and Trust, and representing the Trust at clinical networks and external meetings as delegated.

Leadership and team working are key aspects of the role, requiring excellent leadership skills, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and Kings Health Partners, and conflict resolution through negotiation and discussion. The post-holder must adhere to Trust and departmental guidelines on leave and absence reporting.

Job Plan
The anticipated job plan includes 7 programmed activities per week, to be carried out at Guy's & St Thomas' sites. The initial job plan is:
- Outpatient clinics: 2.5 programmed activities
- Administration: 1.25 programmed activities
- Neuroradiology MDM: 0.5 programmed activities
- Ward referrals/rounds: 0.5 programmed activities
- Referrals triage: 0.75 programmed activities
- Supporting programmed activities (job planning, appraisal, revalidation, clinical governance, mandatory training): 1 programmed activity
- Medical student lead: 0.25 programmed activities
- Research and development lead: 0.25 programmed activities

The detailed job plan and personal objectives will be agreed with the Clinical Director within 3 months of start date and reviewed annually.

Requirements

Experience
Medically qualified with GMC specialist registration and a licence to practice. Experience in general neurology and movement disorders is essential. Proven ability to deliver high quality clinical care, participate in research, teaching, and clinical governance activities.
