About the Role
Enfield Youth Development Service, part of the Children and Families division within the Youth People and Community Safety Department, supports young people with additional needs including children in need, those on child protection plans, children looked after, and young people engaging in risky behaviour. The service works with young people aged 11-19, and up to 25 for those with disabilities and learning difficulties, providing personal and social development opportunities to help them transition to adulthood and promote good citizenship.

As a Contextual Safeguarding Youth Support Worker, you will use a variety of youth work methods such as detached and outreach youth work, mentoring, advocacy, information, advice and guidance, one-to-one work, group work, and project work to positively engage young people. You will be part of a contextual safeguarding youth work team, line managed by Youth Service and directed by the Contextual Safeguarding Hub to target identified hot spots and young people at risk.

Your role will involve working in diverse settings including streets, local parks, communities, neighbourhoods, and schools. Evening and weekend work will be required in line with service needs. You will establish trusting relationships with young people through one-to-one support, group work, projects, and activities that promote learning, personal and social development, and enable informed choices to stay safe outside their family and home contexts.

You will deliver tailored interventions to reduce engagement in risky behaviour and risk of harm, responding to themes identified by the Contextual Safeguarding Hub. Collaboration with key professional agencies such as social workers, police, schools, youth offending services, community safety, health, and housing will be essential. You will support and challenge young people’s attitudes and actions towards issues including unemployment, drugs, poverty, racism, sexism, disability, health, sexuality, criminality, and peer, parental, and community pressure.

Enfield Council is committed to creating an environment where staff can deliver high quality social work to vulnerable children and young people, supporting professional development and learning.
