Job Title: Control Officer
Salary Range: £30,483 – £36,936 plus 20% weekend and shift allowance
Permanent – Full-time
Location: Joint Control Centre (Wandsworth)
Other essential information: Shift-work, including Nights shifts are compulsory.
Objective of role
Working within an operational team of 26 colleagues in the Joint Control Centre; you are the first contact made by those in emergency situations.
You will be responsible for receiving and processing calls from the public, contractors, outside agencies, and partners and monitor two-way radio, CCTV, personal alarm systems and to respond in line with codes of conduct.
Full training, support and professional development is given and encouraged in the Joint Control Centre. This role offers a high level of responsibility and reward in the breadth and variety of contacts you will receive.
About the role
Are you an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual ready to join our Joint Control Centre. You will work as part of a team in a 24-hour emergency control room covering the Boroughs of Richmond and Wandsworth.
The service operates over 24 hours on a shift basis (including early, late, and night shifts).
Key areas of work include monitoring CCTV and providing data for the Police, responding to Telecare alarms and Richmond and Wandsworth Emergency Control duties.
You will need the ability to work under pressure and use your own initiative, be part of a team and respond to the values of the council. Flexibility and adaptability to an ever-changing service are required.
Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Experience in a front-line service communicating directly with members of the public, clients or residents.
Experience of using basic IT packages.
Must be able to work the shift pattern required and to be flexible regarding working hours.
To be personable, sympathetic and able to deal confidently with clients who may be distressed
Good communication skills (verbal and written)
Ability to work as part of a team; without close supervision and to be able to make decisions independently.
Must be well organised and adaptable, responding to quickly changing priorities.
