Hours
Full Time - 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Typical start time around 8am with some flexibility as the role evolves. This role requires regular inspections across the borough with no facility for home working.
Salary
£35,391 to £42,888 per annum
About the Role
Join Richmond and Wandsworth Councils as a Building Safety Inspector and play a vital role in maintaining the safety of residents in council-owned buildings. You will be part of a new team of professional building inspectors responsible for conducting a variety of health and safety inspections across council-managed residential blocks and estates. Your duties will include fire safety checks, water quality monitoring, asbestos inspections, and fire door inspections to ensure compliance with current standards. You will identify any areas below safety standards and arrange for necessary repairs. Comprehensive training will be provided, though a basic knowledge of fire safety is advantageous. The role involves frequent site visits and inspections, requiring physical activity such as climbing stairs and ladders to access inspection areas. A driver’s licence is preferable but not essential.
Experience
- Practical understanding of building and construction services
- Experience dealing with the public face to face in a variety of situations, including occasionally stressful ones
About you
- Good understanding of building and fire safety legislation as it applies to residential buildings and estates
- Awareness of the importance of compartmentation in ensuring resident safety
- Physically able to climb stairs and ladders to access inspection sites
