About the Role
Croydon Council is committed to providing safe transportation for its SEN clientele to and from school. As one of London’s largest and most diverse boroughs, Croydon serves over 360,000 residents and approximately 14,000 businesses. This role offers the opportunity to join a vital in-house passenger transport service team, delivering high-quality support to a vulnerable client group.
The service is evolving to meet increasing demand and demographic pressures while adapting to budgetary constraints. The focus is on creating an alternative travel model that provides clients with more choice and independence.
As a CTS Driver, you will be responsible for safely transporting young people and adults according to prepared schedules or as directed, assisting passengers with care and consideration, and maintaining appropriate records. You will also be expected to act effectively to diffuse difficult situations and liaise tactfully between home and school.
This is a term time only, part-time role requiring flexibility within core service hours and outside normal office hours as part of a rota. Uniform must be worn while undertaking duties and an enhanced DBS disclosure is required.
Experience
- Previous experience driving passenger transport vehicles, preferably with young people or adults requiring care
- Knowledge of Road Traffic Acts and Highway Code
- Completed MIDAS and First Aid Training
- Experience assisting passengers with care and consideration
- Ability to keep accurate records and write brief incident reports
- Ability to manage and diffuse difficult situations effectively
- Ability to liaise diplomatically between home and school

Qualifications
An appropriate "D" driving licence (with PCV) for the vehicle being driven is essential.
Enhanced DBS Disclosure is required.
