About the Role
Alto Software Group is a B2B SaaS company powering more than half of all UK housing transactions annually. We create software solutions that connect businesses and consumers, providing a one-stop shop for estate agents and home builders. Our mission is to drive efficiency, speed up transactions, reduce risk, and improve the end-customer experience. Operating with a startup mindset within a fast-growing and evolving business, this is an exciting time to join us.
We are seeking a passionate Data Platform Engineer to join the Alto team. You will help scale the data lakehouse that supports analytics and AI across the business, build infrastructure for new data commercialisation products, and create reusable building blocks enabling engineering teams to move data safely and efficiently.
Your responsibilities will include providing ongoing operational support and building new solutions for our data lakehouse to serve internal analytics and AI use cases that enhance productivity. You will build infrastructure and business logic behind data commercialisation opportunities, collaborating with product and commercial teams to transform data into revenue-generating products. You will design and build abstractions, blueprints, and reusable templates that enable service and analytics teams to work with data safely and consistently from ingestion through storage and access.
You will play a key role in modernising our legacy monolithic SQL Server database by extracting data into our lakehouse and other parallel data stores, introducing data retention policies, and assisting migration to modern SQL frameworks and languages. Writing ETL processes and contributing to data modelling for both internal analytics and external-facing data products will also be part of your role.
Taking ownership of your work from design to deployment, independently or collaboratively, you will help shape our engineering practices and explore new ways of working to deliver value to internal customers quickly and predictably.
Our Technology Stack
Data Platform: Databricks, DBT, Fivetran

Containers & Orchestration: ECS, Kubernetes
Experience
- Strong Python skills with a proven track record of building reliable data infrastructure
- Hands-on experience with AWS and Terraform, comfortable with infrastructure-as-code
- Experience with modern lakehouse or warehouse platforms (Databricks preferred, or Snowflake/BigQuery)
- Familiarity with data ingestion and transformation tools (Fivetran, DBT)
- Knowledge of Kafka or similar streaming systems
- Solid SQL skills and understanding of data modelling
- Awareness of container orchestration technologies such as ECS and Kubernetes
About you
- A platform mindset: passionate about building tools, templates, and paved roads for other engineers as much as shipping pipelines yourself
- Eager to learn new technologies and stay current with industry trends
- Pragmatic problem-solver who can navigate ambiguity and find simple solutions to complex challenges
- Collaborative team player who shares early-stage work and gives and receives constructive feedback
- Takes pride in delivering high-quality software at pace
- Genuinely interested in understanding internal customers’ perspectives to deliver impactful solutions
- Excited to grow and develop even if you don’t check every box
