About the Role
We are Ocado Group, bringing world-class automation to online grocery through our Ocado Smart Platform (OSP), which combines cutting-edge robotics, AI, and IoT within advanced Customer Fulfilment Centres. As a Data Scientist in our Treefrogs team, you will play a key role in powering machine learning algorithms behind Ocado Group’s Logistics and Supply Chain technology. Your work will directly impact operational decisions for global partners, including demand forecasting, drive-time predictions, and supplier reliability.

In this role, you will own the full data science lifecycle—from researching state-of-the-art deep learning techniques to deploying, scaling, and supporting production-ready models. Collaborating closely with software engineering, data engineering, and product teams, you will tackle high-impact problems where algorithm performance affects operational efficiency and partner revenue.

You will continuously refine existing architectures, build robust data pipelines, and explore new machine learning applications to ensure our systems remain reliable, scalable, and cutting-edge.

Key Responsibilities
Improve existing model architectures and adapt them to new operational challenges and global partner expansions.
Design and build scalable data pipelines to provide richer, high-quality data for machine learning models.
Own, support, and maintain machine learning models in production, ensuring high availability and performance.
Collaborate with Product teams to identify and build new machine learning applications.
Work with Software Engineering teams to design robust interfaces between models and software systems.
Communicate complex technical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Promote best practices in machine learning development, testing, and continuous deployment.
Stay current with the latest machine learning research to implement innovative techniques.

Experience
Strong programming proficiency in Python and solid knowledge of SQL.
Practical experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
Familiarity with TensorFlow, Keras, or similar deep learning frameworks.
Either 2+ years of data science experience focused on productionising models, OR 2+ years in a software/data engineering role with formal machine learning study.
Good understanding of fundamental machine learning concepts.
Familiarity with modern software development processes including code reviews, CI/CD, testing, and documentation.

About You
Ability to document and explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
Proactive in staying up to date with machine learning research and applying new techniques.
Collaborative team player comfortable working across multiple disciplines.

Qualifications
Formal study in machine learning or related field is preferred but not mandatory.
Knowledge of time-series modelling techniques, particularly transformers, is a plus.
Experience with geospatial data and modelling techniques is desirable.
