About the Role
We are Ocado Group, pioneering world-class automation in online grocery through our Ocado Smart Platform (OSP), which integrates robotics, AI, and IoT within advanced Customer Fulfilment Centres. As a Senior Software Engineer in the Autoplanner team, you will own the engineering that brings data science and machine learning products into live production. Autoplanner builds AI-powered systems that unify planning across global warehouses and last-mile assets, delivering optimized plans that maximize profit and minimize lateness.

You will partner closely with data scientists to ensure our systems are robust, scalable, and efficient as we expand to international retail partners. Primarily working with typed, well-tested Python, and occasionally Java for deep integration with the Ocado Smart Platform, you will oversee cloud-based data applications end to end. Your responsibilities include contributing to core architectural decisions, improving CI/CD pipelines, and raising engineering standards through pairing, code reviews, and shared tooling. You will also integrate AI coding tools responsibly while maintaining strong engineering discipline, system performance, and software quality.

Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining data- and ML-driven cloud applications, building robust APIs and data contracts, managing cloud deployments across AWS environments, packaging and monitoring ML models in production, driving architecture decisions documented as Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), collaborating with cross-functional teams, and sharing on-call and production support duties for critical live services.

Experience
- Proven experience as a Senior Software Engineer owning end-to-end production Python services
- Extensive background building data-intensive cloud applications, preferably asynchronous, event-driven, or queue-based architectures
- Strong practical knowledge of AWS and/or GCP identity, networking, and messaging services
- Solid software design capabilities including defining system boundaries and crafting high-level architectures
- Rigorous testing and delivery discipline including integration testing and modern CI/CD practices
- Hands-on MLOps experience in packaging, serving, and monitoring ML models in production
- Demonstrated track record collaborating effectively with data scientists and cross-functional engineering teams
- Practical experience using AI coding agents on production codebases with strong judgment on validating AI-generated output

Qualifications
