About the Role
We are seeking a talented Data Scientist to join Nectar360, the team behind Sainsbury's Retail Media offering and the UK’s largest coalition loyalty programme with 24 million members nationwide. Based in our new Farringdon office, you will work closely with decision-makers across Nectar360 and Sainsbury’s to build innovative solutions using rich customer data, advanced machine learning, and AI. The N360 Data Science team develops and continuously improves market-leading Retail Media platform capabilities, including multi-channel attribution, uplift estimation, AI-driven targeting, and budget optimisation across instore, onsite, and offsite media.

As a Data Scientist, you will design, build, and enhance algorithms and pipelines that deliver strategic objectives, driving value for customers and the business. You will work on modelling and optimisation techniques such as MMMs, causal inference, Bayesian modelling, experimentation, multi-touch attribution, and unsupervised learning. You will support the maintenance and optimisation of existing models, collaborate with stakeholders to understand their needs, and work with engineering teams to deploy robust, production-ready solutions.

You will be part of a vibrant Data and Analytics community of over 800 colleagues, contributing new ideas and staying abreast of technology trends in data science, analytics, and AI. This role offers the opportunity to tackle complex challenges at scale and create measurable impact across Sainsbury’s, Argos, Habitat, and Nectar portfolios.

Requirements

Experience
- Proven experience in Data Science roles within commercial settings, solving complex problems end-to-end.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain production-grade systems.
- Strong understanding of commercial realities alongside technical rigour.
- Experience applying statistical modelling and machine learning techniques such as causal inference, MMMs, Bayesian inference, experimentation, multi-touch attribution, and time series modelling.
- Advanced programming skills in Python and strong SQL capabilities.
- Experience working with production codebases, version control, CI/CD, cloud platforms, and MLOps tools.

About you
- Highly motivated self-starter with a pragmatic mindset.
- Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly to diverse audiences.
- Independent in proposing and implementing solutions.
- Curious, sceptical, and detail-oriented regarding data quality, bias, and ethics.
- Enthusiastic team player who contributes to a collaborative community.

Qualifications
- Solid grounding in statistical modelling and machine learning in commercial environments.
- Strong programming and technical skills as outlined above.
- Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with data science and AI trends.
