We have an exciting 12-month maternity cover opportunity for a Deputy Service Manager (DSM) within the Lung Division at Royal Brompton Hospital. This role is primarily onsite and involves supporting the Service Manager to ensure effective service delivery aligned with objectives, targets, quality standards, and resource constraints. You will oversee day-to-day management, drive performance in finance, access targets, productivity, and lead improvement projects and service developments.

The DSM will provide line management to a busy administrative team and support the management of junior doctors across the division. This dynamic and collaborative role offers the chance to make a tangible impact on service delivery and ensure smooth operations during this important period.

Requirements

Experience
- Evidence of supporting successful project and/or operational performance and improvement, including development and monitoring of output and outcome measures.
- Operational experience in supporting specific services including design, development, implementation and management of change in a multi-professional environment.
- Experience of administering budgets with demonstrable evidence of individual, team, financial, process and change management.
- Desirable: Experience managing consultants and junior doctors.

Knowledge
- Knowledge and understanding of the changing NHS environment.
- Knowledge of 18 weeks and Diagnostic waiting times.

Skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills including formal presentation, influencing and negotiating.
- Analytical and judgement skills including understanding and application of complex statistical and numerical data.
- Organisational skills with the ability to prioritise, meet deadlines and delegate effectively.

About You
You will be a motivated and proactive individual with strong leadership and management skills. You must be able to work autonomously and collaboratively, demonstrating a commitment to delivering high-quality patient-centred services. Flexibility and adaptability are essential to support service improvements and operational demands.

Qualifications
Relevant management experience in a healthcare setting is essential. Formal qualifications in health or service management are desirable but not mandatory.
