About the Role
Guy’s and St Thomas’ is one of the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS foundation trusts, providing a full range of hospital and community services across south London and specialist care for patients from further afield. In 2021, the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined the Trust, creating a world-renowned heart and lung centre.
We are seeking candidates to join our GI oncology research team, one of the largest oncology and haematology research teams in London. Following a comprehensive induction, you will lead the coordination of an agreed portfolio of clinical trials, assist in trial setup, identify and discuss trials with patients, collect and report data, and support patients and their carers throughout treatment. This role requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to improving patient care and outcomes.
The post holder will act as a patient and participant advocate, coordinate research clinics, organise study-related care, and implement strategies to recruit and enrol research participants. Responsibilities include leading a portfolio of research studies, performing clinical assessments, maintaining study documentation, mentoring junior staff, and contributing to quality assurance processes. Adherence to study protocols, regulations, and local Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) is essential to ensure participant well-being.
Guy’s and St Thomas’ is part of King’s Health Partners, an academic health sciences centre with dedicated clinical research facilities including an MHRA accredited Phase I clinical trials unit. The GI Team is based at Guy's Hospital.
Experience
- Experience working in a relevant research setting
- Experience working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Experience in a patient/participant facing role with clinical duties
- Experience with interventional studies or complex/large-scale observational studies
Desirable Experience
- Experience with electronic case report forms and computer packages
- Experience supervising others
- Experience working on clinical trials involving drugs, therapies, or interventions
Qualifications
- Degree in life sciences or related field, or equivalent theoretical knowledge
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- GCP (Good Clinical Practice) certification

- Relevant course related to clinical area
Skills
- Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills with clear verbal and written communication
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Up-to-date knowledge relevant to clinical research and good clinical practice
- Excellent organisational skills, including coordinating clinics and participant visits with multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to perform clinical tasks such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiratory observations
- Ability to collect blood samples via venepuncture
- Ability to acquire skills in processing biological samples according to protocols
- Ability to acquire skills in conducting ECGs
- IT skills including database management, Microsoft Office, Excel, and eRecord

- Proficiency in cannulation and serial sampling
- Proficiency in conducting ECGs
