The Plastic Surgery Department is one of the largest in the UK, covering breast, skin, head and neck, lower limb and hand specialities, dealing with cancer, trauma and elective services. The department operates across multiple sites including Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospitals and supports external trusts.
This is an exciting opportunity for two enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join the busy Plastic Surgery team based at St Thomas' Hospital. One vacancy supports inpatient booking and the other outpatient bookings.
The Patient Access Coordinator will be the first point of contact for patients and service users, providing expert knowledge of outpatient and inpatient scheduling procedures. The role requires delivering a positive patient experience, prioritising competing demands, and quickly understanding the complexity of the service. You will interact with a multidisciplinary team in a busy office environment, handling complex and sensitive issues, and providing cross-cover within the wider Plastics service when required.

Experience
- Experience working in a customer-focused environment, demonstrating the ability to manage difficult customers and challenging situations is essential.
- Experience in an administrative role within the NHS is desirable.
- Knowledge of medical terminology is desirable.
About you
- Proficient IT skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Understanding of confidentiality and its application in the workplace.
- Ability to provide courteous and efficient customer service both face to face and over the telephone.
- Able to treat each patient as an individual and ensure their specific needs are met, including arranging appropriate support such as interpreting services.
Qualifications
- Good general education with English and Maths to GCSE standard or equivalent.
- Relevant NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification or experience.
- Customer service qualification or training is desirable.
