British Transport Police (BTP) is seeking ambitious, resilient and motivated individuals to join our Detective Constable Accelerated Entry Scheme (DC AES). As a Detective Constable, you'll investigate serious and complex crimes, identify offenders, support victims and help deliver justice. You'll be at the forefront of protecting Britain's rail network and the millions of passengers who use it every day.

Our Accelerated Entry Scheme provides a clear, structured pathway into detective work, combining frontline policing experience with specialist investigative training. You'll gain the skills, knowledge and support needed to develop into a professional investigator and build a rewarding career with opportunities for progression.

Your Training Journey
The Detective Constable Accelerated Entry Scheme has been designed to provide recruits with both the core skills of a police officer and the specialist knowledge required to become a detective.

Training Programme:
18 Weeks – Police Officer Training: Core policing skills, police powers and legislation, personal safety training, community-focused policing
8 Weeks – Tutored Uniform Patrol: Frontline operational experience, working alongside experienced officers, applying classroom learning in real policing situations
16 Weeks – Criminal Investigation Training: Investigative techniques, gathering and evaluating evidence, interviewing victims, witnesses and suspects, case file preparation, criminal justice processes

Following successful completion of training, you will enter CID as a Trainee Detective Constable, begin preparation for the National Investigators' Examination (NIE), build a portfolio of investigative work and work towards full accreditation as a Detective Constable.

The total training duration is 42 weeks including annual leave entitlement.

Requirements

Experience
Previous policing experience is not required. This scheme welcomes applicants from all backgrounds with transferable skills and potential.

Qualifications
No specific qualifications are required. The scheme provides full training to develop the necessary skills and knowledge to become a Detective Constable.

Eligibility Requirements
You are not eligible to apply if:
- You have been unsuccessful following an application, testing process or interview for a Police Officer, Special Constable or PCSO role within the previous three months
- You have been unsuccessful following BTP vetting checks within the last 12 months
- You have ever received a custodial sentence, including a suspended sentence
- You have previously been dismissed from another police force
- You are currently subject to a live misconduct or criminal investigation
- You have been declared bankrupt, have a County Court Judgment (CCJ), or have an unmanaged Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA)
- You do not have permanent right to live and work in the UK
- You have not continuously resided in the UK for the previous three years

Tattoos
Tattoos that are offensive or inappropriate are not permitted.
Face and neck tattoos will be considered on a case-by-case basis in accordance with BTP policy.
All tattoos must be declared during the recruitment process.
