About the Role
Inspire, lead, and shape the future of Humanities at Lift Aylward. We believe every child deserves an excellent education - in every classroom, every day. As Director of Humanities, you will lead our dedicated team across Geography, History, Religious Studies, and related disciplines. This pivotal role is at the heart of our curriculum leadership team and is ideal for someone ready to shape an ambitious, knowledge-rich Humanities offer across our school. The position provides a clear pathway towards senior leadership.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the strategic direction of the Humanities faculty to ensure exceptional outcomes for all.
- Developing and supporting subject leads and teachers through coaching and high-quality CPD.
- Designing and implementing an inclusive, engaging, and evidence-informed curriculum.
- Using data and research to drive progress, identify gaps, and close them swiftly.
- Championing a collaborative, ambitious culture with high expectations.
You will also play a key role in the wider school improvement journey, supporting Lift Aylward as we continue our path from Good to Outstanding.
Lift Aylward is a vibrant 11-18 learning community of over 1,000 students, including a thriving sixth form. Located in the heart of Edmonton, North London, we serve a richly diverse community with many students speaking English as an additional language. The role is permanent and due to commence April 2026 or earlier if possible.
Experience
Proven impact as a current or former Head of Department or Faculty, with a strong track record of delivering exceptional outcomes at KS4 and KS5. Skilled in curriculum design, pedagogy, and assessment. Confident classroom expert, ideally with a Geography or associated discipline.

Qualifications
Qualified Teacher Status and a relevant degree, ideally in Geography or an associated discipline.
