About the Role
The Defence Nuclear Organisation (DNO) is responsible for the provision of the UK’s nuclear deterrent, including submarines and nuclear warheads, while advising on nuclear planning and fostering international cooperation. The DNO is a multidisciplinary team of over 700 professionals working in partnership with the Royal Navy, the Submarine Delivery Agency, and the Atomic Weapons Establishment as part of the Defence Nuclear Enterprise (DNE).

This role is within the Emergency Planning Policy team, which leads on all emergency issues from legislation through to operational effectiveness across the Defence Nuclear Enterprise. It offers substantial opportunities for development as a Policy Professional, with exposure to Nuclear Enterprise knowledge and potential delivery and operational responsibilities.

The Assistant Policy Adviser will support policy development and advice, contribute to enhancing emergency resilience across the enterprise, and coordinate HQ emergency call-out arrangements. Key responsibilities include becoming a super user of the Radiation Response Emergency Management System (RREMS), maintaining HQ Defence Nuclear Emergency Organisation (HQ DNEO) alerting arrangements, supporting senior policy staff with financial planning, commercial support, consultations, ministerial advice, and policy design, as well as supporting and participating in emergency exercises.

The role may include joining the on-call rota, attracting an allowance subject to training and capability demonstration. A discretionary Recruitment Retention Allowance of up to £6,000 per annum is available based on competence, qualifications, and experience.

Hybrid and flexible working options are available but require regular workplace attendance due to security constraints. Candidates should discuss working arrangements with the recruiting manager prior to applying.

Experience
Experience working in emergency response, resilience, planning, and policy is desirable.

You must be able to meet the security requirements for developed vetting and be a UK national.

Qualifications
Emergency planning, policy, or resilience management related qualifications are desirable but not essential.
