About the Role
Redbridge is an ambitious, diverse and exciting east London borough committed to building strong communities and transforming local services. We are seeking a Driver Attendant to join our Passenger Services team. In this role, you will be responsible for driving a range of vehicles for which you hold a license and operating ancillary equipment. You will undertake daily vehicle routine maintenance and safety checks including oil, water, tyres, pressures, lights, passenger lift, and wheelchair securing equipment. You will maintain a basic knowledge of first aid and provide initial assistance to passengers when required. Accurate completion of timesheets and record sheets, including weekly digital tachograph card downloads, is essential.

You will ensure the safety and care of passengers, particularly those with disabilities, from collection to delivery, acting as a point of contact with medical staff and agencies. Compliance with the Working Time Directive and drivers’ hours legislation is required. You will maintain vehicles to a high standard of cleanliness inside and out and work collaboratively with Passenger Assistants to provide a safe, punctual, and excellent customer service experience. Additional duties include collecting, transporting, and delivering post, parcels, furniture, luggage, equipment, and supplies across council locations.

Experience
Previous experience in driving passenger vehicles or similar roles is desirable but not essential. A commitment to providing excellent customer service and safeguarding vulnerable passengers is required.

You will be reliable, responsible, and have a caring attitude towards passengers, especially those with disabilities. You must be able to work collaboratively within a team and demonstrate excellent communication skills. A flexible and proactive approach to work is essential.

Qualifications
You must hold a full category D1/D driving licence valid for the UK. Basic first aid knowledge is required or willingness to undertake training. Proof of right to work in the UK will be required upon appointment.
