About the Role
Under supervision, you will undertake specialist assessment and formulation of substance misuse in inpatient service users and make evidence-based treatment recommendations that complement broader care plans. You will develop and deliver individual and group psychosocial interventions, including motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioural therapy, contingency management, and systemic interventions, adapted as necessary for inpatient settings. Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and other therapies staff, you will support service users throughout their care pathway, using psychometric tools where appropriate.
You will communicate complex clinical information sensitively to service users, families, carers, professionals, and organisations, overcoming language and cultural barriers with interpreters when needed. You will contribute to referral screening, risk assessment, and management strategies within the Drug and Alcohol Service and provide specialist consultation and advice to forensic services and other agencies.
With support, you will participate in the development, delivery, evaluation, and review of training packages related to substance misuse, co-produced and co-delivered with service users where appropriate. You will involve families and carers in treatment plans and maintain effective relationships with non-statutory local drug and alcohol service providers.
You will maintain high standards of practice through clinical and professional supervision, appraisal, continuing professional development, and keeping up to date with relevant legislation, policies, and developments in forensic and general mental health services and the criminal justice system.
Administrative duties include writing progress notes and formal reports under supervision, organising time and resources to provide safe, effective care, and attending relevant meetings and reflective practice sessions.
You will support the development of the Drug and Alcohol Service by contributing to service models, policies, and procedures, and engage in regular managerial and clinical supervision. You will conduct yourself professionally, abide by Trust policies, participate in audits and quality improvement activities, and maintain physical and emotional resilience in a high-risk environment, including keeping updated in Breakaway techniques and relevant MAPPA training.
