About the Role
As a Drug and Alcohol Recovery Worker within the East London NHS Foundation Trust, you will work under supervision to provide specialist assessment and formulation of substance misuse in inpatient service users. You will make evidence-based treatment recommendations that complement broader care plans and deliver individual and group psychosocial interventions including motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioural therapy, contingency management, and systemic interventions. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams and other therapy staff to support service users' recovery journeys.

Your role will include using psychometric tools at key stages of the care pathway, communicating complex clinical information sensitively to service users, families, carers, and professionals, and working effectively across language and cultural barriers. You will contribute to referral discussions, risk assessments, and risk management strategies within the Drug and Alcohol Service.

You will provide consultation and support to forensic services and participate in the development and delivery of training packages related to substance misuse, co-produced with service users where appropriate. Family and carer involvement in treatment plans will be encouraged, including direct interventions or educational support.

Maintaining strong relationships with local non-statutory drug and alcohol service providers is essential. You will engage in continuous professional development, clinical supervision, and appraisal to uphold the highest standards of practice. You will also keep up to date with relevant legislation, policies, and issues relating to forensic and general mental health services and the criminal justice system.

Administrative duties include writing progress notes and formal reports under supervision, organising time and resources to deliver safe, effective care, and attending relevant meetings and reflective practice sessions.

As part of the Drug and Alcohol Service team, you will support service development, engage in managerial and clinical supervision, and adhere to all Trust policies and professional standards.

You will participate in audits, evaluations, and quality improvement activities to enhance clinical outcomes and service performance. You will maintain up-to-date training in Breakaway techniques and MAPPA, and work safely within a physically and emotionally high-risk environment, managing emotionally charged clinical material with appropriate support.

Experience
Experience working with substance misuse in clinical or forensic settings is desirable but not explicitly required. Ability to work under supervision and engage with complex clinical material is essential.

Qualifications
