About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Tower Hamlets Virtual School as an Education Officer based within the Tower Hamlets and City of London Youth Justice Service. Working in a busy, multi-agency team, you will support children and young people involved in the Criminal Justice System to reach their full potential by identifying their strengths and working in partnership to find appropriate education, training, and employment opportunities tailored to their needs.

This role operates across the Youth Justice Service (3 days per week) and the Virtual School for Children in Care (2 days per week), with a joint reporting line for casework oversight. You will have strategic oversight of the education of all children known to the Youth Justice Service. For children in care, you will either be the allocated Virtual School Teacher or support the existing teacher. Where capacity allows, you will also support children not known to the Youth Justice Service during your Virtual School commitment. This post is supported by the Virtual School Assistant Headteacher.

Our benefits include membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme, generous annual leave entitlement starting at 29 days (rising to 33 days after 5+ years’ service) plus bank holidays and additional Christmas leave, flexible and agile working to support work-life balance, staff money-saving schemes such as rent deposit and season ticket loans, and access to learning and development opportunities through our Learning Academy with clear career development and leadership pathways.

Requirements

Experience
Experience of working with children and young people, particularly those involved in the Criminal Justice System or in care, is desirable. Experience of multi-agency working and case management is advantageous.

About you
You will be passionate about supporting vulnerable children and young people to achieve their educational potential. You should be able to work effectively within a multi-agency team, demonstrate strong communication and organisational skills, and be committed to promoting positive outcomes for children and young people.

Qualifications
A relevant qualification in education, youth work, social work, or a related field is desirable but not essential. A willingness to undertake further professional development and training will be supported.
