About the Role
Tower Hamlets is a vibrant, multi-cultural borough steeped in history, offering a unique and challenging environment for Environmental Health work. From the bustling “Curry Capital” of Brick Lane to the high-tech financial institutions of Canary Wharf, the role involves diverse responsibilities across the private rented housing sector, which comprises over a third of the borough's housing stock.

As a Principal Environmental Health Officer with delegated authority, you will use accredited specialist skills and techniques to proactively and reactively raise housing standards within the private rented sector. This includes undertaking enforcement action when necessary to ensure compliance.

The role is based within the dynamic Housing and Regeneration directorate, working closely with colleagues across regulatory services such as trading standards, planning, and environmental health. You will be part of a forward-thinking team with plenty of opportunities for development and growth.

The position offers approximately 6 weeks paid holiday depending on public service experience and a rewarding, busy workload with exciting casework opportunities.

Experience
- Proven track record in housing licensing schemes, complaint handling, enforcement action, and managing complex cases within the private rented sector.
- Relevant Environmental Health or Housing enforcement experience.

About you
- Motivated and dedicated individual with strong negotiation and persuasion skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a team and across multiple regulatory services.
- Ideally holds a driving licence and can provide a car for work purposes.

Qualifications
- Level One (Grade I): Officers without an Environmental Health qualification but with relevant on-the-job experience or a certificate relevant to the role.
- Level Two (Grade J): Fully qualified Environmental Health Officers with a BSc Environmental Health degree or equivalent, working towards CIEH post qualifications and near completion.
