About the Role
Tower Hamlets is a vibrant, multicultural borough with a rich history and diverse challenges in Environmental Health. From the bustling “Curry Capital” of Brick Lane to the high-tech financial institutions of Canary Wharf, the Environmental Health Service plays a vital role in maintaining standards and safety for thousands of residents and workers.

The private rented sector comprises over a third of the borough’s housing stock. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead a team within the Private Sector Housing Service, managing enforcement work, housing licensing schemes, complaints, and complex cases.

As a Principal Environmental Health Officer, you will lead, manage, and support officers to deliver successful outcomes for private sector residents. You will work closely with internal and external partners, using a wide range of delegated powers to ensure compliance and improve housing standards.

The team is dynamic and forward-thinking, operating within the Housing and Regeneration directorate, with strong links to other regulatory services such as trading standards and planning. The role offers approximately 6 weeks paid holiday (dependent on public service experience) and opportunities for professional development and growth.

Each day brings rewarding and challenging casework, enforcement initiatives, and the chance to make a real difference in the borough’s private rented housing sector.

About you
Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to support and guide colleagues.
Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners.
