About the Role
Nomura is a global financial services group with a presence in approximately 30 countries, serving clients through Wealth Management, Investment Management, and Wholesale divisions. This role is within the EMEA Compliance department based in London and focuses on Equities Trade Surveillance. The Compliance Officer will conduct daily, weekly, and ad hoc surveillance analysis using various systems to monitor for market abuse and manipulation. Responsibilities include trade surveillance, assisting with audio and electronic communications monitoring, advisory surveillance, and investigations. The role requires being the subject matter expert for Cash Equities surveillance, ensuring adherence to procedures and timely escalation of issues. You will collaborate with the EMEA Head of Global Markets Surveillance to identify risks and align market abuse functionality with business needs. Additional duties include preparing trade information for the Money Laundering Reporting Officer, supporting Compliance IT with surveillance system enhancements, quality assurance of offshore surveillance alerts, and assisting with management information and risk metrics reporting. The role demands maintaining up-to-date knowledge of EU/UK regulatory rules, market abuse regulations, and trade surveillance systems such as Actimize, Bloomberg, and SMARTS.broker. Attendance at industry events to stay current with regulatory and market developments is expected.
Experience
Strong Equities product knowledge is essential, ideally with previous surveillance or trading experience. Familiarity with the FCA handbook and EU Market Abuse Regulations (MAR) is required. Experience using trade surveillance systems such as Actimize or SMARTS.broker is highly desirable.

A proactive approach to identifying risks and enhancing surveillance systems is important. You will demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
Relevant qualifications or certifications in compliance, finance, or related fields are advantageous but not explicitly required. A commitment to continuous professional development and staying informed on regulatory changes is expected.
