About the Role
The Family Support and Safeguarding (FSS) service combines Assessment and Intervention social work services into a single, integrated service focused on supporting children and families in Newham. The service is built on family-led, relational values and the established Circles of Support practice model, aiming to keep children at the heart of all work while improving experiences for families, partners, and social workers.
The FSS service consists of four services and sixteen teams, supporting families from the first point of contact and assessment through to longer term interventions such as referrals to partners, Child Protection (CP), and Children in Need (CiN). Two teams specialise in working with children and families affected by disability or SEND, ensuring expert support is maintained. Court proceedings are managed by the Children in Care service.
Social workers in this service are caseholding and participate in duty one week in every sixteen, offering a balanced workload and professional development opportunities for those experienced in both assessment and longer term work.
