About the Role
Join London Metropolitan University as our External Communications Officer and help tell our story! This is a new and exciting role offering the opportunity to shape how we share our achievements and community impact with the world. You will play a key role in promoting and protecting the University’s reputation by producing high-quality, on-brand digital content and coordinating proactive media engagement. Your work will amplify our successes and showcase the incredible work happening across our diverse community.

In this role you will:
- Build and maintain positive relationships with journalists and external stakeholders
- Secure media coverage that highlights the University’s successes and impact
- Ensure consistent, engaging messaging across all external channels
- Work closely with our external PR agency and in-house Social Media and Brand team to deliver integrated campaigns that raise our profile
- Proactively identify news stories and opportunities by collaborating with colleagues across all departments

You will be part of the Communications team, reporting directly to the Associate Director of Communications, receiving guidance and leadership to ensure alignment with University priorities. This fast-paced, creative role offers a deeply rewarding experience helping us share stories that matter.

Experience
Proven experience in communications, media relations, or a related field is desirable. Experience working with journalists and managing media coverage is advantageous.

You are a natural storyteller with a passion for shaping reputation and building connections. You thrive on creating compelling content and engaging with the media. You are creative, proactive, and able to work collaboratively across teams to identify and promote newsworthy stories.

Qualifications
A relevant degree or professional qualification in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related discipline is preferred but not essential. A positive attitude and commitment to the University’s values of equity and social inclusion are essential.
