About the Role
This is a fixed term contract for 12 months within a thriving Arts and Events team. Tower Hamlets is a diverse and vibrant borough, and this role plays a key part in supporting the borough’s arts and cultural sector. You will support the development and delivery of festivals and events by organising the Council’s own events and facilitating external events with organisers and promoters. You will ensure all events comply with the Council’s terms and conditions and relevant legislative and statutory requirements including Licensing, Environmental Health, Trading Standards, Health and Safety, Building Control, and Emergency Services.

You will process and support a wide variety of community, corporate, and commercial events and activities in the borough’s parks and open spaces. Occasional management of casual staff and contractors will also be part of your responsibilities. A key priority is the commercialisation of parks and open spaces to generate revenue against savings targets, requiring commercial awareness of the event, marketing, and hospitality sectors.

This post reports directly to the Arts & Events Manager. Job-sharing would be considered.

Benefits
Competitive salary, Local Government Pension Scheme membership, generous annual leave (29 days rising to 33 days after 5+ years’ service), plus bank holidays and 3 additional days at Christmas. Flexible and agile working to support work–life balance. Staff money-saving schemes such as rent deposit loans and season ticket loans.

Tower Hamlets is a unique borough at the heart of London, combining history and innovation. It is one of the fastest growing and youngest boroughs in the UK, offering opportunities to make a real difference. The award-winning Town Hall in Whitechapel provides a modern, flexible workplace designed to foster collaboration and innovation. The Council values equality, diversity, and inclusion, guided by its TOWER values – Together, Open, Willing, Excellent and Respect – creating a positive and inclusive culture where colleagues can thrive.
