About the Role
Join AECOM’s Ground Engineering team as a Geotechnical Engineer and help deliver innovative infrastructure projects across the UK and internationally. You will work on a diverse portfolio including major projects such as National Grid’s Great Grid Upgrade, H2Teesside blue hydrogen facility, High Speed Rail, Network Rail’s Control Point 7 programme, and overseas commissions. Our Ground Engineering Practice serves sectors including Energy, Rail, Highways, Water, Development, Defence, Nuclear, and Ports & Marine.

In this role, you will contribute technical expertise and commercial acumen to manage project tasks, ensuring quality delivery within budget and programme. You will actively participate in technical and client review meetings, provide alternative ideas, and support fee proposals and bids. Mentoring junior staff and owning your professional development are key aspects of this position.

You will be responsible for geotechnical input across all project stages from desk study and feasibility through ground investigation, interpretation, design, and preparation of specifications, reports, and construction drawings. This role offers the opportunity to work independently while collaborating closely with colleagues across the UK & Ireland.

Requirements

Experience
- Experience applying geotechnical design principles including earthworks, foundations, retaining structures, and slope stabilisation
- Ability to work independently and manage project budgets and programmes
- Experience in ground investigation design, specification, and management
- Familiarity with geotechnical analysis and design software such as Slope/W and Wallap
- Knowledge of UK ground conditions and ground investigation practices
- Experience with CDM Regulations and Safety in Design
- Experience in specialised sectors such as highways and railways is desirable
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for clear technical reporting
- Clean driving licence and willingness to travel throughout the UK

Qualifications
- BEng/MEng in Civil Engineering or BSc/MSc in Geotechnical Engineering
- Chartered Engineer (IEng/CEng) status desirable or working towards it with support from the team
- Demonstrable understanding of current design codes, standards, and best practices
- Familiarity with data management software such as gINT or Open Ground is advantageous
