About the Role
Based within the Chief Executive’s Office, the Governance Manager - Secretary to The National Archives Board and the Advisory Council on National Records and Archives (‘the Secretary’) provides dedicated lead professional secretariat support to The National Archives Board and the independent Advisory Council on National Records and Archives (ACNRA), including its subcommittees: The Forum on Historical Manuscripts and Academic Research and The Manorial and Tithe Documents Panel. The Secretary supports The National Archives’ corporate governance function and the Keeper’s statutory responsibilities.

The National Archives’ Board is the key strategic advisory body responsible for setting strategic direction, providing leadership in statutory and corporate responsibilities, making key investment and project decisions, managing risks, encouraging organisational performance improvements, and taking corporate responsibility for decisions and implementation.

The Advisory Council, chaired by the Master of the Rolls, advises the Secretary of State for the Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) on public records access and represents public interest regarding records transferred to The National Archives. The Forum on Historical Manuscripts and Academic Research focuses on independently held archives, the wider archives sector, and academic research. The Manorial and Tithe Documents Panel advises on matters relating to manorial and tithe documents.

The Governance Manager - Secretary works closely with the Governance Manager – Annual Reporting, Transparency and Assurance, and the Head of Chief Executive’s Office to ensure high-quality, coordinated support to the Board and subcommittees and to maintain governance standards set by Government.
