About the Role
The National Archives (TNA) is seeking an experienced Philanthropy Manager to join its newly established Philanthropy team within the Research, Grants and Academic Engagement department. This department leads on research strategy and delivery, research impact and engagement, grant fundraising and philanthropy, management of external funding, and grant-making to the archives and GLAM sectors.
The Philanthropy Manager will play a key role in shaping this new business function by growing The National Archives’ profile within the philanthropic community and generating donor income. Reporting to the Head of Philanthropy, the postholder will independently manage a portfolio of donors and prospects at various stages of cultivation and stewardship.
Working collaboratively across disciplines, the Philanthropy Manager will develop compelling proposals to secure major gifts supporting The National Archives’ strategic vision. This includes generating income for multi-year strategic programmes and annual priority projects such as exhibitions, digitisation, and conservation.
The role involves developing and delivering cultivation and stewardship activities to engage donors closely with The National Archives’ collections, activities, and expertise. The postholder will identify bespoke opportunities to recognise donors during project delivery, develop engaging progress reports, and work closely with project teams to monitor projects and ensure accurate financial reporting.
The Philanthropy Manager will work closely with The National Archives Trust, a registered charity supporting public engagement and conservation, and collaborate with the Grant Development team to achieve shared fundraising goals.
Interviews will be held on-site in October 2026. The role does not offer sponsorship.
