
Location
Richmond, with a combination of onsite and home working. Applicants should be able to regularly travel to the Kew site for a minimum of 60% of their work time.
Hours
Full Time. Requests for part-time working, flexible working and job share will be considered, subject to operational needs.
Salary
£34,882 per annum, plus a £10,105 contribution towards membership of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.
About the Role
The National Archives (TNA) is seeking an enthusiastic and creative Philanthropy Officer to join its newly established Philanthropy team within the Research, Grants and Academic Engagement department. This department leads on research strategy and delivery, research impact and engagement, grant fundraising and philanthropy, management of external funding, and grant-making to the archives and GLAM sectors.
The Philanthropy Officer will support income generation and help strengthen The National Archives’ profile in the philanthropic community. Reporting to the Head of Philanthropy and working closely with the Philanthropy Manager, the role involves managing a portfolio of donors and prospects at various stages to secure support for priority projects, collaborating with colleagues across the organisation.
Key responsibilities include developing proposals and reports for multi-year programmes and annual projects such as exhibitions, digitisation, and conservation; supporting cultivation and engagement activities; monitoring funded projects in partnership with the Projects and Process team; and maintaining accurate records on the CRM database.
The postholder will work closely with The National Archives Trust, a registered charity supporting public engagement and conservation efforts, as well as with the Grant Development team to achieve shared goals.
Experience
- Graduate-level education or equivalent experience.
- Experience in a fundraising role with trusts and foundations and/or individuals.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritise and meet multiple deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal and liaison skills, able to work collaboratively and build relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate and up-to-date records.
- Good judgement in progressing issues independently or escalating when appropriate.
- Proficient IT skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to use or learn CRM databases such as Donorfy, Raiser’s Edge, or Microsoft Dynamics.
- Interest in arts, culture, and heritage with the ability to advocate for The National Archives.
