About the Role
The National Archives (TNA) is seeking an enthusiastic and creative Grant Development Officer to support the development of grant-funded projects, partnerships and fellowships within the Research, Grants and Academic Engagement department. This department leads on research strategy and delivery, research impact and engagement, grant fundraising and philanthropy, management of external funding, and grant-making to the archives and GLAM sectors.

The Grant Development Officer will work closely with the Grant Development Manager, Head of Grant Development, and colleagues across TNA to support grant fundraising and enhance grant-winning capabilities. Responsibilities include managing multiple grant applications simultaneously, developing skills in grants administration, bid development, finance, and communication.

As a UKRI-accredited Independent Research Organisation, most grant proposals focus on research, but the portfolio also includes digitisation, capital infrastructure, public engagement, and learning projects. The postholder will collaborate with the Philanthropy team and The National Archives Trust, a registered charity supporting public engagement, education, and preservation of the collection.

The role also involves refreshing grant development communications for internal and external audiences to ensure staff and partners have the information needed to develop successful grant applications.

This position is part of a strategic priority to grow charitable and philanthropic funding, expand research income beyond arts and humanities, reach a broader range of funders nationally and internationally, and raise TNA’s profile through creative public engagement and learning programmes with national reach.
