
Location
Richmond, with a combination of onsite and home working. Applicants should be able to travel regularly to the Kew site for a minimum of 60% of their work time.
Hours
Full Time. Requests for part-time, flexible working, and job share will be considered based on operational needs.
Salary
£40,853 per annum, plus a contribution of £11,835 towards membership of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.
About the Role
The National Archives (TNA) has statutory responsibilities under the Public Records Act (PRA) to provide guidance and supervision to public bodies on the safekeeping, management, and selection of public records. This role sits within the Strategic Compliance Team of the Government and Archives Leadership Directorate, leading engagement with government stakeholders and monitoring compliance with the PRA.
The postholder will be a subject expert in assessing and identifying the long-term value of information across all formats. Responsibilities include developing and delivering training, advice, and guidance on appraisal and selection techniques to enable government departments to create bespoke methodologies that support transparency and accountability.
The role involves providing practical interpretation of TNA’s Records Collection Policy, leading TNA’s Panel on Records and Collection on appraisal, selection, and safekeeping of public records, and advising on handling material subject to government classifications and information rights legislation.
Additionally, the postholder will develop and deliver best practice guidance on information disposal in line with the Code of Practice, review and report on solutions for appraisal, selection, and sensitivity review of records, and collaborate with the data science team on AI test and learn activities to enhance digital public record curation.
This role requires SC clearance or willingness to obtain it, with a residency requirement of at least five years in the UK. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Experience
- Qualification or equivalent experience in information and records management, including safekeeping, lifecycle management, disposal of records, appraisal and selection techniques, and handling material subject to government classifications and information rights legislation.
- Demonstrable experience building and maintaining strong trust-based relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels using diplomacy, tact, and insight.
- Proven ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and persuasively in person, online, and in written advice, guidance, and presentations for both expert and non-expert audiences.
- Experience developing and delivering guidance and training that reflects equality and diversity needs.
- Experience with information management systems, including Microsoft 365, and applying information governance principles and good practice.
- Line management experience, including workload, performance, and development management.
