About the Role
Ealing Adults Social Care is on an improvement journey to enable the very best outcomes for residents. Our transformation is driven by a relentless focus on delivering a person-centred, community connected resident journey supported by effective governance, high quality practice and risk management, all delivered within our resources. A key part of our improvement journey is creating a leadership team that can deliver on our ambition to create connected communities that lead to better lives. We have made excellent progress, but there is still much more to achieve.
We are seeking an inspiring, experienced and values-driven leader to undertake the newly created role of Head of Services Long Term. This role covers all ages long term, so the right candidate will have experience working across age groups, including those with mental health needs, learning disabilities, neurodiversity or who have experienced trauma.
You will be a registered Social Worker with an aptitude for delivering the best in a complex, multi-demand operational environment.
Our Vision
As a council, our guiding vision is Connected Communities, the understanding that communities and the connections within help everyone to fulfil their potential and live healthy lives drives our work day in, day out. In adult social care, we also know there will always be a need for a caring, effective and responsive service to meet the needs of our most vulnerable residents.
About Ealing
Ealing is home to over 375,000 people, with population growth of 8.5% in the last decade. It is the third most diverse borough in London and the eighth most diverse borough in England and Wales – with over 170 languages spoken and 56.8% of residents identifying as ethnically diverse. Our communities bring a wealth of traditions, perspectives and talents that enrich every aspect of life, from thriving businesses to schools, spaces and celebrations.
Each of our seven towns faces different challenges and there is wide variation in socio-economic outcomes. Our seven-town approach enables us to better understand the needs, inequalities and aspirations of our communities. For example, residents in Northfields can expect to live almost six years longer than those in Norwood Green. Parts of Southall have some of the worst health outcomes in Northwest London and experienced the highest rates of COVID-19 related deaths in the borough.
Adult Social Care in Ealing
Ealing provides funded social care to just under 4,000 residents with a budget of just over £120 million per annum. Our service aspires to outcome-focused support plans that maximize the strengths and assets of residents and communities. Driven by a strong commitment to co-production, we have a vibrant structure to hear the voices of those who draw on social care and their carers.
Following a Local Government Association peer review in 2023, we developed a multi-year delivery plan focusing on strong quality assurance and delivering choice and control for our residents. The 2024 LGA report stated: “You have achieved outstanding progress over the past 22 months, successfully meeting each of the recommendations from the peer challenge.”
We continue to focus on choice and control with excellent practice at its heart. Key priorities include person-centred practice, technology-enabled lives, modernised day opportunities through our Better Days project, increasing uptake of Direct Payments, developing accommodation-based solutions, and a real focus on working age adults.
Experience
Proven leadership experience in adult social care across all age groups, including mental health, learning disabilities, neurodiversity, or trauma. Experience working in a complex, multi-demand operational environment is essential.
Registered Social Worker status is required.
About you
You are an inspiring, values-driven leader with a commitment to person-centred practice and community connected approaches. You demonstrate resilience, strategic thinking, and the ability to lead transformational change. You have excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills and a passion for improving outcomes for vulnerable residents.
You are committed to equality, fairness and inclusion and able to work collaboratively within a diverse community and workforce.
