About the Role
The Hospital Play Specialist will create and maintain a suitable environment where play occurs naturally for children and young people participating in research and clinical activities. This includes working across various areas such as the Clinical Research Facility, 2nd floor research area, Day Ward, Theatres, Paediatric Accident and Emergency, and Paediatric Outpatient Clinics. The role involves supervising play environments in satellite locations as directed by the Paediatric & Research Service. You will assess the play development needs of individual children and provide organised play and stimulation tailored to their condition and environment. The role includes preparing and distracting children during clinical procedures and surgery, selecting and maintaining safe play materials and equipment, and liaising with the multidisciplinary team regarding appropriate play interventions. You will also participate in safeguarding children and young people within the Trust, supervise childcare students, and provide support to families in stressful or crisis situations. Respect for the individuality, cultural, religious, and value diversity of children and families is essential. Continuous professional development is encouraged through study days, conferences, clinical supervision, and appraisal to ensure reflective and effective practice.

Experience
Experience working with children in a healthcare or play specialist setting is desirable. Experience in supporting children through clinical procedures and providing distraction techniques is advantageous.

You should be sensitive to the diverse cultural and religious backgrounds of patients and families. The ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and to support families under stress is essential. Qualifications
A relevant qualification in play work, child development, or a related field is preferred. Training or experience in paediatric healthcare settings is advantageous. Commitment to ongoing professional development and reflective practice is required.
