About the Role
We are seeking experienced Housing & Litigation Lawyers to join Lambeth Council as part of an expanding team. This varied role involves managing a challenging caseload of contested housing litigation and related legal advice, ensuring the Council receives cost-effective, high-quality advice and representation. You will handle claims under the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985, Environmental Health Act 1990, Defective Premises Act 1972, and contractual claims from tenants and leaseholders including breach applications. The role also includes contested possession proceedings such as anti-social behaviour injunctions, homelessness cases, and judicial reviews.

The successful candidate will be highly organised, proactive, flexible, and able to work under pressure while managing competing deadlines. You will maintain quality assurance and performance standards within the team and provide specialist legal advice and representation in court proceedings, including instructing counsel.

Lambeth Council offers a £5,000 welcome bonus for legally qualified new starters, payable 50% after 6 months and 50% after 12 months in the role.

Requirements

Experience
Substantial experience in housing and local government law with a thorough, up-to-date knowledge. Proven track record in representation in court proceedings and instructing counsel. Strong experience drafting legal documents and correspondence and providing specialist legal advice. Ability to manage a busy caseload and maintain quality assurance and performance standards.

Experience in effectively managing a team is highly desirable.

Qualifications
Legally qualified solicitor or barrister with relevant experience in housing and local authority law. Good working knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules is essential.
