About the Team:
The Lambeth Parks Team are responsible for managing over 60 parks and open spaces across Lambeth. These spaces are a valuable resource for Lambeth’s residents and visitors, essential for their health, wellbeing and quality of life. We are proud to have 23 Green Flag Award winning parks in the borough and take pride in ensuring they remain a great asset for the Lambeth community and future generations to enjoy. Our grounds maintenance service is run in house, through Lambeth Landscapes. Previous Horticulture Apprentices have found employment with Lambeth or gone on to further study.
About the Role:
You will be based at Brockwell Park and Larkhall Park. You will work closely with and support the Lambeth Landscape team of Gardeners and supervisors and other parks staff as directed. You will undertake a wide range of horticultural and grounds maintenance duties outdoors in all seasons, including mowing and strimming grass; looking after herbaceous borders and shrubs and naturalised areas. You will contribute to improving the quality of the landscaping within Brockwell Park and Larkhall Park, making the parks more attractive and welcoming to users and improving their environmental performance for amenity value, biodiversity and climate change. You may occasionally work alongside volunteers and members of Friends of groups and other parks users.
The role will include provision for 6 hours per week (as a guide) off-the-job time training and academic study time at Capel Manor College, commencing 24 th September 2024. This study will lead to a Horticulture Operative Apprentice QCF Level 2 qualification.

learn new skills on the job and through college study
increase their knowledge about plants and their care
ability to undertake manual work outdoors in all seasons
work towards achieving a high standard of work
contribute to being part of a team
You must also meet at least one of the following criteria: be a resident of Lambeth, have gained your qualifications in the borough or be a current or previous recipient of Lambeth Care Leaver Services.
Applicants must either have or be prepared to achieve level 1 maths and English by the end of the taught component of the apprenticeship.
It will be advantageous to have some prior experience of working in gardening or associated landscape based industry experience.
