About the Role
As a Lead Nightshift Manager at Sainsbury's, you will lead and manage a small team of managers overnight to ensure all replenishment activities are completed and the store is ready for customers the following morning. You will plan for key trading activities and events by collaborating closely with the store leadership team. Your responsibilities include people management such as pay and scheduling routines, training, communication, and handling employee relations including performance management, absence, and disciplinary processes. You will regularly take full accountability for the store overnight, role modelling and coaching for high standards and operational efficiency. Ensuring the health and safety of all colleagues working on your shift is a key part of your role. This position requires a hands-on leader who can confidently manage the store in the absence of senior management and drive high performance through data-driven decision making and team engagement.
Responsibilities
Lead the nightshift management team to deliver exceptional customer experiences and seamless store operations. Empower your team to maintain product availability, uphold safety standards, and execute daily operational tasks efficiently. Act as a role model and coach to promote a culture of ownership, accountability, and inclusivity. Manage complex people matters with fairness and sound judgement, ensuring a safe and supportive working environment. Drive continuous improvement by interpreting KPIs and embedding new ways of working to achieve operational excellence.

Experience
- Proven leadership experience managing large teams in fast-paced, customer-focused environments
- Experience developing leaders, building high-performing teams, and fostering a culture of ownership and accountability
- Track record of delivering exceptional customer experiences and improving KPIs such as sales, stock availability, customer satisfaction, and colleague engagement
- Confident managing sensitive and complex people matters including performance, absence, and formal employee relations cases
- Operational leadership experience in retail, hospitality, or food service, including owning departmental performance and leading in the absence of senior leadership
- Experience leading change initiatives and embedding new systems or ways of working
