Responsibilities include maintaining GMC specialist registration and licence to practice, attending agreed direct clinical care Programmed Activities promptly, and developing and maintaining the competencies required for the role.

The post holder will provide high quality teaching to medical undergraduates and other healthcare professionals as required, and may act as an educational supervisor and appraiser to ensure external accreditation of training posts.

Performance management duties involve working with medical, nursing, and managerial colleagues to ensure clinical efficiency (e.g. reducing length of stay, cancelled operations, and DNA rates), quality of outcomes (e.g. infection control targets, reducing re-admission rates), financial management (e.g. cost improvement programmes, managing locum agency spend, drug budgets, and clinical data accuracy), and operational efficiency (e.g. day-case rates, waiting list activity, and demand management).
