About the Role
The Make Ready Technician is responsible for preparing ambulances to the agreed standard ready for operational duty, ensuring vehicles meet strict time deadlines and operational requirements. The role involves working at remote and satellite sites, collecting and transporting vehicles between sites, and visiting hospital locations to retrieve London Ambulance Service (LAS) equipment to maintain availability for operational crews. You will be expected to work independently and as part of a team, managing competing demands and stressful situations professionally.
The role requires adherence to infection control standards and the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). You will routinely undertake duties safely and efficiently as directed by Operational Managers and the Hub Coordinator, ensuring the Trust’s standards are maintained throughout the make ready process. Responsibilities include using Pro-Cloud software on a personal iPad to receive jobs, scan equipment, record vehicle readiness, and manage stock withdrawals both manually and electronically.
Additional duties include undertaking function and assurance checks on complex medical and non-medical equipment, ensuring cleaning chemicals are stored safely and in date, and maintaining a clean and safe working environment. You will assist with emergency product recalls, communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders, and escalate issues as required. The role involves driving Trust vehicles in accordance with procedures and logging all journeys.
Training will be provided, including statutory and mandatory training, with supervision until competency is achieved. The post holder must follow manual handling principles when lifting awkward or heavy items and use PPE when handling potentially dirty or dusty equipment. Health and safety risks, concerns, near misses, and accidents must be reported and recorded appropriately.
Experience
Experience working independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, changeable environment is essential. Ability to manage workload and priorities without direct supervision is required. Experience with vehicle preparation, equipment handling, or similar operational roles is advantageous but not explicitly stated.
About you
You should be professional, reliable, and able to work under pressure while maintaining high standards of safety and quality. Excellent communication skills are necessary to liaise with colleagues at all levels and escalate issues appropriately. You must be able to work on your own initiative and demonstrate responsibility for the quality of your work and service delivery. A positive attitude towards training and development is important.
Qualifications
You must hold a valid driving licence and be able to drive Trust vehicles safely in accordance with relevant procedures. You will be required to undertake all statutory and mandatory training relevant to the role. Manual handling training and adherence to health and safety policies are essential. No specific academic qualifications are stated, but competency will be assessed through training and supervision.
